GRADING REQUIREMENTS FOR MONEN (Under 10yrs) AND YONEN (10-12 yrs)

The Samurai Judo Academy grading syllabus is based on the Judo Federation of Australia Inc. GRADING POLICY, PROCEDURES GUIDELINES MANUAL as a minimum standard recognized within the International Judo Federation.

The technical requirements for Monen ( Under 10 years)are the same as for Yonen (Under 13 years)

Points are earned by bouts under competition conditions. Orange belt points can be earned within the judo school. Points for belts above orange require inter-club or open competition. The higher the belt, the more advanced you need to be in judo knowledge (history, philosophy etc..) and skills ( eg ukemi/ breakfalls, randori , moving between techniques in standing).

 

 GRADING REQUIREMENTS FOR SHONEN (13 to 15yrs) AND SEINEN (Over 16 yrs)

The Samurai Judo Academy grading syllabus is based on the Judo Federation of Australia Inc. GRADING POLICY, PROCEDURES GUIDELINES MANUAL as a minimum standard recognized within the International Judo Federation.  The technical requirements for Shonen are the same as for Seinen except for Kata, Shime Waza and Kansetsu Waza which are note required. Shime Waza and Kansetsu Waza have been excluded because of the inherent danger of the techniques and the level of understanding required by Judoka when practicing and applying these techniques.

The higher the belt, the more advanced you need to be in judo knowledge (history, philosophy etc..) and skills ( ukemi/ breakfalls, randori , moving between techniques in standing and on the ground, kata etc…) as well as judo service (club, jnr coach, competitions, committee, events etc..)
