9-Nov-2008   -   Judo Revival in the Hunter: New programs for women and kids
Recent Australian Titles successes coincide with the development of new judo programs at Newcastle PCYC, including classes for primary school students from 6-7pm on Wed and Fri and expressions of interest being sought for
a)a self defense program for women
b)a new program for 5-7yr olds

Judo is a system of grappling techniques including throws, attacks and defences in standing and on the ground. Unlike other fighting arts, the aim of judo is to defeat an opponent without causing any injury.

The word judo literally means the gentle way explains sensei McKenzie. It originated as a form of self-defence for monks who were not allowed to carry weapons and did not want to kill or maim others if attacked.

As a form of self-defence, judo has many advantages. The reason that judo is essential for anyone serious about defending themselves, is that physical attacks do not happen at arms length

Because it is performed with safety in mind, it has also developed into a world-wide sport…now the 2nd most practiced sport on earth behind soccer

Enquiries can be made at all Police and Community Youth Clubs or with sensei Ken McKenzie on 49 512530 or 0421 343626.
